NLA Not too happy about Landlords Register
Posted on 17/05/2009
The National Landlords Registration has hit out at the Governments new landlord registration scheme. It says the Governments move is well meaning but flawed.
The Landlord registration scheme has been running in Scotland for many years now but it provides a unique viewpoint as to why the scheme can’t work in the UK as a whole.
The scheme has so far failed to work in Scotland since it only 75% of present properties have been registered. This leaves the law abiding landlords at a disadvantage from Rouge property owners who chose not to register their properties.
The government means well by asking all landlords to register but has to be able to ensure a 100% registration rate which could seem impossible and thus end up hurting the landlords who are supposed to benefit from it in the first place.
The plan proposes for registering not only the address and residence of the landlord but also the addresses and details of all owned properties. This has to be actively updated by the landlord every year to be able to set an up to date account of existing properties owned for that year.
The landlords will receive a unique identification number that will be used in all property related documents including tenancy agreements.
